Unfortunately, this photo doesn’t really get accross the scale (compare it to the tree, which is actually closer than the dish), but this thing was huge. It’s the biggest dish in a satellite farm, somewhere in the middle of Fryslân, Dirk tells me it’s called “The Big Ear” locally.
Myself, Zoja and Thom were driving accross the Netherlands, eventually ending up in Groningen for a great meal, and we spotted this off the side of the road and just had to go in and take a closer look. The facility is surrounded by a lot of security, even though it’s in the middle of nowhere, but they didn’t seem to mind us parking outside and taking some photos.
